NSF (Scotland) is a leading charity working with people affected by mental illness.

Mental illness is surrounded by myth and misunderstanding. Mental ill health affects 1 in 4 people at some point in their lives and over 1 in 100 will experience a more severe mental illness. Any one of us can potentially have a mental health problem and mental illness can affect people of all ages and walks of life.

"I became aware of schizophrenia the hard way ten years ago when my lovely, intelligent son succumbed to his mental illness. He has carried on somehow, and gained a first class degree, but on most days he certainly inhabits a different universe from the rest of us. NSF (Scotland) is the only organisation able to offer us real support in these hard days, and I will always be grateful for this."

Anyone who has lived with, experienced or been touched by severe mental ill health will know how devastating this illness can be, both for the person affected and for their family and friends.

NSF (Scotland) works to improve the wellbeing and quality of life of those affected and supports their family members, carers and friends. We bring hope to individuals and families. We provide much needed information as well as more practical assistance. Our services present an opportunity to give and receive mutual support from others whose lives have been similarly affected.

There is never enough funding to do all we would wish to do and it is voluntary income that makes the difference to many of our services. We are in desperate need of extra funding to maintain our services and continue to develop and expand in the years to come.
