Spinal Research is the only UK charity solely dedicated to funding research to
reverse paralysis caused by spinal cord injury: we have only one aim: to restore
movement and sensation to people who have been paralysed and to transform their
lives.
The lives of people like Daniel, who was only four when he was
knocked down by a car and paralysed. He is now 12 and his mum Jillian told us:
"Daniel cannot move or feel from the neck down and has to use a ventilator to
breathe. You never believe this sort of thing will happen to you - yet it did
to us. Just last week Daniel told me: ‘I have forgotten what walking feels like;
I wonder if I will ever know how it feels again’. That's why we support Spinal
Research. We want Daniel to know what walking feels like again".
When we were initially set up, we came up against established convictions within the scientific community that the spinal cord simply could not be repaired. We challenged this belief and invested in studies that proved otherwise. We have now identified a number of projects that have the real potential to turn spinal cord injury from the life-shattering event it is today into a treatable condition.
We do not receive any government funding to support this vital work and we rely on the generosity of individuals like you to advance the research which could help Daniel and the over 50,000 people living with paralysis in the UK alone.
