Children Today was founded in 1994 to help disabled
children and young people up to the age of 25 enjoy a better quality of life
by providing them with the specialised equipment they need.
We believe the provision of specialised equipment has a direct and immediate impact on a child’s quality of life and independence, and is vital in helping them to overcome obstacles and achieve their potential. Equipment can include wheelchairs, walking frames, tricycles and other mobility aids, as well as communication aids, multi-sensory equipment and other information technology.
Mark’s Story
12 year-old Mark has Duchenne muscular dystrophy which is a
disability that affects his muscles. It means that Mark’s muscles are
becoming progressively weaker as muscle cells break down and are gradually
lost.
Mark is a bright and independent boy, but his upper arms quickly become tired when he is feeding himself and often he needs help from his carers at meal times. Mark’s dad contacted Children Today to request funding for a Neater Eater and we were delighted to be able to award the full amount required to purchase the equipment. Once the equipment had been delivered we visited Mark at his school to see just how beneficial it is. As you can see from the picture, Mark’s Neater Eater means that he is now able to complete his meals independently like his other class mates, a big achievement for Mark.
